Here is the honest, non-greenwashed view of how Expo Organics handles responsible sourcing, sustainable production, and the ESG commitments that travel with every consignment.
Where our sustainability commitments are real (not marketing)
Sustainable sandalwood sourcing
Mysore-core Santalum album supply through Indian Forest Department-controlled channels. CITES Appendix II paperwork issued per consignment where required. Bacdanol available as a fully synthetic sustainable substitute when natural sandalwood pricing or supply is constrained.
Himalayan cedarwood
Cedrus deodara from Indian Forest Department-controlled harvest channels — managed forest cycles, no clear-cutting, regional employment programmes for the Himalayan harvesting villages.
Palm-free carrier oil portfolio
Our carrier oil line — sweet almond, sesame, jojoba, neem, karanj, olive, castor, sunflower — is palm-free by default. We do not supply palm oil or palm-kernel derivatives. Buyers positioning RSPO / palm-free / clean-beauty get this commitment by default.
Australian Tea Tree from ATTIA-registered growers
Tea Tree oil sourced from Australian Tea Tree Industry Association-registered growers in northern NSW. Origin documentation per lot. No counterfeit / blended grades.
South African Marula
Marula oil cold-pressed from native Sclerocarya birrea trees. Kernel harvest is sustainable — does not impact tree growth. Supports rural Southern African employment.
Indonesian patchouli
Sulawesi-sourced patchouli with traditional iron-still + modern stainless-steel options. Smallholder farmer supply chains.
Bulgarian rose Damask Valley
Rose Otto from Karlovo / Kazanlak rose-growing region with heritage origin documentation per lot. Traditional steam-distillation infrastructure.
Bhimseni camphor
Natural Dryobalanops aromatica resin from Indonesian (Sumatra/Borneo) tree-tapping. Tap-harvest does not kill the tree.
Where we maintain transparency about limits
We are an industrial-scale manufacturer with two Delhi-NCR production plants. Industrial manufacturing has environmental footprint. We share the honest view:
- Energy use: distillation and fractionation are energy-intensive processes. We are working on solar-supplementation for select production lines but it is not yet a majority of our energy mix.
- Water use: steam distillation consumes water; we recycle process water where possible but acknowledge ongoing footprint.
- Solvent extraction: ethanol-based absolute extraction (rose, jasmine) uses food-grade solvent that is recovered + recycled across batches.
- Logistics emissions: sea-freight is the lower-emission option vs air-freight. We default to FOB sea for international consignments above 25 kg.
- Plastic packaging: HDPE drums are recyclable and reusable. Glass amber containers used for premium small-volume SKUs.

What buyer-side ESG teams typically ask us
Are your aromatic chemicals natural or synthetic?
Mixed — we supply both natural-source and synthetic-route aromatic chemicals depending on the SKU. Source declared on every COA. Premium natural-origin grades available with prior confirmation.
Do you use conflict minerals or controversial inputs?
No. Our raw material base is botanical (essential oils, carrier oils) or petrochemical-route (some synthetic isolates). No conflict minerals in our supply chain.
Animal testing?
We do not animal-test. Our products are sold as ingredients to cosmetic + pharma manufacturers; we adhere to the cruelty-free standard.
Child labour / forced labour audit?
Available on request. Our two Delhi-NCR plants are compliant with Indian labour law; we can provide audit-trail documentation for buyer SA8000 / SMETA review.
Carbon footprint disclosure?
In development. We can provide approximate per-kg carbon footprint estimates on request, with appropriate caveats about scope of measurement.
Packaging recycling?
HDPE drums are reusable; we can take back used drums for international buyers on subsequent shipments. Glass containers fully recyclable.
