It is classified as an alkylbenzene related to a monoterpene. Its structure consists of a benzene ring para-substituted with a methyl group and an isopropyl group. p-Cymene is insoluble in water, but miscible with organic solvents.
Uses and Benefits p-cymene is used to prevent coughs and eliminate phlegm [15] as well as being a flavouring agent, and being used in the production of fungicides and pesticides [10,18]. It is considered to be “generally recognised as safe” (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [19].
