Australian sandalwood — is it “real” sandalwood?
Yes — Santalum spicatum is a true sandalwood species (same Santalum genus as Mysore). The chemistry is similar but the santalol content is lower. Aroma is sweeter, lighter.
Bacdanol — what is it actually?
A synthetic sesquiterpene aldehyde designed to mimic the sandalwood base-note character. Several manufacturers produce it; it’s a recognised F&F building block, particularly for soap and mass-market premium where natural sandalwood cost is prohibitive.
Pricing — how much more is Mysore vs Australian?
Mysore typically commands a 2–3x premium over Australian sandalwood per kg. Both are 10–20x more expensive per kg than typical essential oils like eucalyptus or citronella. Confirm current quarter pricing at RFQ.
