Menthol Crystal vs L-Menthol Liquid — One Active, Two Pack Forms, Two Workflows
Menthol is one of the highest-volume aromatic actives in pharma, oral-care, confectionery, vapour-rub and topical-analgesic manufacturing globally. Crystal vs liquid choice depends on your formulation step, melt-handling capability, and downstream blending recipe.
Menthol Crystals
- White crystalline solid (needle / prismatic)
- Melt point: 41–44°C — handle with jacketed kettle or warm-room
- Assay: ≥99.5% (USP / BP / IP / JP / Ph.Eur)
- Packaging: 25 kg fibre / HDPE drum
- Shelf life: 5 years sealed
- Best for: pharma manufacturing, vapour-rub master-batch, gum, lozenge, oral-care master-batch
L-Menthol Liquid
- Pre-dissolved working solution (5–50% typically)
- No melt step required — pour-and-blend directly
- Assay reported as % L-menthol in carrier (validated)
- Packaging: 25 L can / drum / IBC
- Shelf life: 12–18 months
- Best for: continuous-flow flavour blending, finished-mouthwash top-up, lab pilot batches, confectionery extruder feeds

When to choose what
Crystals for
Vapour rub master-batch (Vicks-style), pharma manufacturing, chewing gum / lozenge plants, oral-care master-batch facilities.
Liquid for
No-melt-kettle facilities, continuous-flow blending lines, confectionery extruder feeds, finished-mouthwash top-up dosing, lab R&D.
Both for
A large oral-care plant might use crystals for master-batch and liquid for final-dose top-up adjustment.
Don’t buy liquid when
You have the jacketed kettle on site — you’re paying for carrier you don’t need.
What’s common between crystal and liquid menthol from our plant
Same upstream synthesis chain; both ship with the same QC architecture:
- ≥99.5% GC assay on the active L-menthol regardless of form
- USP / BP / IP / JP / Ph.Eur grades available
- NABL third-party retain-sample testing
- GC-MS chromatogram + COA + MSDS attached to every lot
- Optical rotation measured per lot (verifies L-isomer purity)
- Heavy-metals + residual-solvent panel on request
- Sample programme: paid, credit-back against bulk order in 60 days
Buyer FAQ
Q: Cheapest per kg of active menthol?
Crystal — always — because you’re not paying for the carrier solvent. If you have melt-handling, crystal is the economic choice.
Q: Is L-menthol the same as natural menthol?
L-menthol is the natural enantiomer found in Mentha arvensis (corn mint) and Mentha piperita (peppermint). Synthetic L-menthol is identical at the molecular level. Both are USP-compliant.
Q: Can I get DL-menthol (racemic)?
Available on request — typically for industrial applications. Most pharma + oral-care uses pure L (levo) form because its cooling action is sensorially stronger than DL.
Q: Do you supply IP-grade for Indian pharma?
Yes — Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) grade is our default for domestic pharma. BP / USP / JP / Ph.Eur grades also available, confirm at PI stage.
Q: Minimum order?
25 kg fibre/HDPE drum entry. Drum + FCL pricing on /pricing-tiers/.
