BULK GINGER EXTRACT GUIDE

Fresh vs Dried Distilled vs CO2 Extract Ginger — Three Commercial Forms

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) yields three commercial extract forms with distinct chemistry. Fresh-distilled retains more volatile top notes; dried-distilled is the F&F workhorse; supercritical CO2 extract is the nutraceutical + premium flavour grade.

Buyer FAQ — extended

Which ginger form has the highest cost per kg?
Supercritical CO2 extract typically commands a 3-5× premium over dried-distilled essential oil per kg of active gingerol/shogaol content. The premium reflects the CO2 extraction equipment + the full-spectrum bioactive profile.

Is gingerol the same compound as zingiberene?
No. Gingerol is the non-volatile pungent compound responsible for ginger’s heat and most of its claimed anti-inflammatory activity. Zingiberene is a volatile sesquiterpene responsible for the characteristic ginger aroma. Essential oil contains the volatiles; oleoresin and CO2 extract contain both volatiles + non-volatile gingerols.

Origin — Kerala vs Chinese ginger?
Both available. Indian Kerala ginger is the heritage source for aromatherapy + ayurveda positioning. Chinese ginger is cost-efficient mass-market. Origin declared on every COA.

Minimum order on each form?
Fresh-distilled essential oil: 1 kg sample → 25 kg drum. Dried-distilled: same. CO2 extract: 500g sample → 5 kg pilot → 25 kg drum (smaller increments due to premium pricing).

FCC food-grade available?
Yes — all three forms ship with FCC + FEMA documentation for food-flavour applications. Confirm grade at PI stage.
